These terms apply to your use of checkthisbiz.com ("CheckThisBiz", "we", "us"). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What CheckThisBiz is
CheckThisBiz is an informational directory of independent, locally-owned US businesses. National chains and franchises are excluded; see how. We show listing data from open sources, the results of automated checks, and information from business owners, so you can do your own research before you call, buy or hire. We are not a consumer reporting agency, and nothing on the site may be used to decide anyone's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment or housing.
2. Scores are not endorsements or accusations
The check score measures how much independent, checkable information we found about a listing. It is not a rating of a business's quality, honesty, licensing or service, and it is not a recommendation. A high score is not an endorsement. A low score is not an accusation and is not evidence of wrongdoing. See how checks work.
3. Listing data may be wrong
Listing information comes from third-party sources and automated checks. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, for example a business may have moved, closed or changed its phone number. Always confirm important details directly with the business, and use your own judgment. If you spot a mistake, please report it.
4. Your conduct
When you use the site, you agree not to:
- submit false, misleading or defamatory information, or impersonate anyone;
- use the message feature to send spam, solicitations the business didn't ask for, or harassment;
- scrape or bulk-download the site in a way that burdens it, or get around rate limits or security measures;
- use the site for anything unlawful.
We may remove content, block access or refuse requests that break these rules.
5. Business owner claims
If you claim a listing, you confirm that you own the business or are authorized to act for it, and that everything you tell us is true. You are responsible for the accuracy of the details you submit. We may ask for proof, reject a claim, or remove a verified status at any time, for example if a claim turns out to be false or ownership changes. False claims may be reported to the affected business.
6. Paid plans
Paid plans are not available yet. When they launch, their prices and terms will be shown before you buy. Paying for a plan never changes a listing's check score, and paid placements are always labeled "Sponsored".
7. Links to other sites
Listings link to business websites and other third-party sites. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
8. Our content
Listing data from the Overture Maps Foundation is available under the CDLA-Permissive-2.0 license (see data sources). The site's design, text, check results and scores belong to CheckThisBiz. You may link to and quote pages for non-commercial purposes with attribution.
9. No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CheckThisBiz will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on information on the site, including decisions to do or not do business with anyone. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
